When children have autism, they may also experience a range of mental and behavioral health challenges. Skill-building programs help children develop coping strategies and other tools that equip them to function successfully in daily life and become as independent as possible.
As part of our holistic approach to serving the whole child and their family, St. Joseph’s Villa offers a variety of mental and behavioral health skill-building programs outside of our school.

All children deserve to gain the highest level of independence possible in the most appropriate and least restrictive environment. St. Joseph’s Villa provides mental and behavioral health skill-building services to support quality of life and teach functional skills to children and youth with autism. This highly structured program includes goal-directed training for individuals and support for families.
Caring professionals meet with each individual and perform a diagnostic evaluation. We then create an individual treatment plan that includes objective, specific, actionable, and attainable goals. We offer mental and behavioral health skill-building services during in-home and after-school programs. Our person-centered approach builds on strengths, meets unique needs, and helps participants realize their potential.
The services we provide include:
To qualify for our mental and behavioral health skill-building services, children must have clinical needs that limit their ability to participate in daily life activities. With the Villa’s integrated support programs, we equip children with functional skills they can use every day at school, at home, and in the community.
To address mental, behavioral, and developmental challenges, individuals with autism may benefit from outpatient counseling. We offer these services to help children learn and practice the skills they need to function appropriately in everyday life.
Professional, licensed clinicians provide compassionate individual and group therapy. We first diagnose and evaluate the child and talk with the family. Then, we create an individualized treatment plan with specific, actionable, and realistic goals.
Outpatient counseling services utilize evidence-based, trauma-informed, and person-centered therapy. During structured sessions, clinicians use concrete examples, visual models, direct teaching, and role-play. Several of the issues we address during outpatient counseling services include:
Children and families may receive outpatient counseling services at a frequency and intensity that matches their unique needs. We include family members as we support the child in all areas of life.
Our commitment to children with autism and their families includes mental and behavioral skill-building programs, outpatient counseling services, crisis stabilization services and more.
