Referral Process

The Sarah Dooley Center for Autism provides academic and behavioral education for students ages 5 to 22, focusing on building life skills that lead to greater independence and successful transitions to adulthood. Services are based on best-practice Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) methodologies.

Eligibility Criteria

• Current Individualized Education Plan (IEP) with private day selected under Least Restrictive Environment
• Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP) tract/Standards of Learning (SOL)
• IEP category reflected in Categories Served Admissions Steps

Admissions Steps

1. The initial referral is received from the student’s public school/Local Education Agency (LEA)
2. Documents are reviewed for appropriate school placement
3. Family contacted, school and student discussed with tour date & time set
4. School tour with Guardian(s) and student, registration packet given
5. School system contacted for additional required records and status update
6. Placement decision made and relayed when all required records have been received and reviewed
